Ali Blackburn

Hi! I’m Ali. I’ve been with Seize the Day on and off for the past 9 years. My first gig was at the first (or was it the second?) Northern Green Gathering, way back in 1998.
I sing, dance and play shaky egg, tambourine and clack sticks. I can also play guitar and fiddle, and you may see some of that this coming year.
My song Embrace Me is on the Tide is Turning album.
I am also interested in making films. Shannon and I have made two films together, I Swear- about the Faslane365 action, and our new Flying video.

I have two beautiful children, Bethan who’s 10 and Joseph who’s 4. Bethan is beginning to follow in my footsteps by performing the Shackle Shuffle and Globalisation with us on stage and she sings on the album version of Globalisation.

You can see me on the left and Bethan in the middle at a fair trade gig in Weymouth this year.

I live near Glastonbury with my husband Jim who designs and builds timber frames; we are both very interested in sustainable/eco housing. Have a look at his web site for more info www.thetimberframe.co.uk. We are lucky enough to own four acres of land about a mile away from our house. It’s very beautiful, with old orchard trees, and view of the Glastonbury Tor. We have planted 1300 mixed coppice trees in one acre, and a new orchard of about 20 trees. We now have Gloucester old spot pigs and random sheep.

I have a degree in Environmental Biology and have studied Permaculture. Before the band and the kids I spent 15 months in New Zealand and Australia WWOOFing, visiting many communities and organic farms. I’d love to go back there, but I’ve made a commitment to not fly any more. I use a lot of permaculture thinking in my garden and on my land. I am also interested in personal growth work, and have completed a co-counselling fundamentals course and studied NLP. I’m treasurer for our local pre-school and I’m the one who works with Pat at Moonspace to produce this website.

I’m very interested in how humanity is evolving and going to get out of the mess we are in, I LOVE the work of Ken Wilber, his brain and his heart are as big as the planet. Read Grace and Grit or A Brief History of Everything, for a good intro to his work.

I love being in Seize the Day, I love reaching people, performing and the company of the band, and stretching myself. I love going to all the different festivals and actions, and meeting so many inspiring people, I love being part of the solution.
